Archaeological Survey of India to renovate Koodalmanikyam Temple

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will renovate the ‘chuttambalam’ of the Sree Koodalmanikyam temple, Irinjalakkuda.

Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran on September 1st 2008, handed over a cheque of Rs. 3.04 crore on behalf of Koodalmanikyam Devaswom to ASI Superintendent Archaeologist Dr. N. Nambirajan for the purpose.

The mukhamandapam, thidappilly, mulayara, vathilmadam and other structures of the chuttambalam, would be renovated, preserving the rich craftworks, said Koodalmanikyam Devaswom chairman P. Thankappan.

The work would start soon, he added. The Devaswom has also plans for opening an archaeological research centre. The objective was to help the public to know about the rich collection of archaeological artefacts in the temple, Mr. Thankappan pointed out. An art gallery and a shopping complex were among the other projects on the cards.
